The following applies to ALL in-person and online courses:

Please check with your assigned high school counselor to ensure you register for the appropriate course(s). It is the student’s responsibility to check with their counselor to verify that the courses taken during summer school meet their home school’s requirements for graduation, replacement credit, and the potential impact of the course on their GPA.

SUMMER SCHOOL SESSIONS:  All classes are worth 0.5 credits.

Session II

July 1 - July 22

All Session II courses are online and are for grade recovery only.

$300/course

REGISTRATION

It is highly recommended that students limit registration to no more than 2 courses per session, due to time constraints and work loads. Students will receive login information for online Edgenuity classes by the first day of class or within 24 hours of registration.

Students entering 9th grade as well as students finishing 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades may enroll in the summer semester. One semester’s elective and/or required credit (0.5 Carnegie Unit) toward graduation may be earned for each course taken.

CREDIT RECOVERY

Credit Recovery: Summer school courses with course numbers NOT identical to courses offered during the traditional school year are offered for credit recovery. With credit recovery, both grades will be reflected on the student’s transcript and both grades will factor into the GPA calculation. Summer school coursework completed in person at a DCSD high school of a different level and online coursework through Edgenuity are offered with credit recovery.

COMPUTER-BASED LEARNING COURSES

For high school students who need to earn certain specific core credits or for those who need to earn elective credits to enhance fundamental skills, online coursework offers a powerful and engaging curriculum. Edgenuity coursework is self-paced, and can be accessed from home or anywhere the internet is available. Students will receive login information for online Edgenuity classes by the first day of class, or within 24 hours of registration. Students who complete online courses will receive credit recovery.

CREDITS

The high school summer semester is intended to:
• Provide the opportunity to earn credit for courses taken but failed during the previous year

• Provide remediation to improve specific skills

Summer school courses offer academic or elective credit toward graduation. One semester of credit and a grade will be recorded on a student’s high school transcript. This grade becomes part of the student’s grade point average (GPA) that is used in determining class rank in the Douglas County School District.

GRADE REPORTING
Final grades will be viewable on the parent portal at the conclusion of each session (July 3 for Session 1 and August 4 for Session 2); grades will be posted to transcripts by July 8 for Session 1 and August 5, 2024 for Session 2.

STUDENT DISCIPLINE
The Douglas County School District Code of Conduct and  Discipline will be  enforced during the summer semester as it is during the regular school year.  Any student who does not abide by classroom and Summer Semester expectations will be asked to leave the program. A parent may be requested to pick the student up immediately. No credit will be given.

Should you require a course not listed, or have questions about a particular course please contact Amie McCarty at  [email protected].
