Testing Schedule

DCSD Assessment Schedule - Updated 9/2020

TRHS Testing Schedule 2021

Registration window is open to take the optional SAT essay

Important reminders:

  • Students must register in advance to take the optional SAT Essay
  • The essay registration window is Monday, January 18 – Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
  • This will be the only opportunity for students who wish to take the optional essay to add it to their April school day test registration.

When taking the Colorado School Day SAT this spring, 11th grade students will have the option of taking the SAT with or without the optional essay. Adding the essay to their SAT registration is a student choice. Schools or districts do not make policy decisions regarding which students will or will not take the SAT essay.

Students may add the essay to their registration through their online College Board account or by calling the College Board during the window. Schools will not receive extra essay materials for test day changes, therefore please be sure students register during the window. Individual students who wish to take the optional essay must register for it in advance; bulk registration for the SAT essay is not available.

Additional Information:

  1. The SAT Essay is scored separately from the SAT. A student’s score on the essay will not improve or reduce their score on the SAT.
  2. The essay may be required by some colleges and universities. To find out a particular school’s essay policies go to: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/college-essay-policies
  3. The optional essay is only offered as part of the 11th grade SAT. There is no essay option for the PSAT 8/9 for 9th graders or the PSAT 10 for 10th graders.
  4. Further information such as how to register for the essay is available.  Flyers for students are attached with registration instructions.

Please note: College Board announced yesterday that we are discontinuing the optional SAT Essay and we are aware that this may have cause some confusion for Colorado educators.  For this spring, the optional essay remains available to students, and the opt-in registration process for the Colorado SAT school day administration remains the same as in prior years.  After June 2021, the optional essay is expected only to be available where it is offered as part of state-wide SAT School Day administrations.
